QS weights these indicators differently by discipline — citation metrics count for more in medicine and the sciences than in law or business, where the reputation surveys dominate. Two consequences worth holding onto: a subject table rewards research and reputation, which is not the same thing as undergraduate teaching quality, and it ranks institutions, not individual degree programmes.

No earnings figures in this section, deliberately. Salary data on university profiles is institution-wide — one number covering every graduate of every major. Attaching it to a subject would imply we know what computer science graduates specifically earn, and we don't.

Graduate computer science. Faculty concentration in a specific area — systems, theory, machine learning, security — drives outcomes here more than any overall position does.
Before the ranking matters
- Subfield beats overall rank
- Departments cluster around specialisms. For research study, the group publishing in your area is the thing to evaluate; a top-5 department with nobody in your subfield is the wrong choice.
- Funded PhD, paid master's
- US CS PhD offers normally include tuition remission and a stipend. Terminal master's programmes are typically full-cost, and are often used as a route into the local industry job market rather than into research.
- Industry proximity is part of the offer
- Location does real work in this field — internship pipelines, part-time industry research, and hiring networks concentrate around a handful of technology regions.
These rank programmes, not universities. A school's band here is independent of its university's overall position on this site — professional schools admit separately, are funded separately, and are ranked by different publications on different criteria. Where a row shows a university rank too, treat the two numbers as answering different questions.
